How we check answers
Each answer starts from published pet safety sources. We record which ones, and when we last reviewed the answer.
The three verdicts
- Safe in small amounts. Fine as an occasional treat, prepared the right way.
- Only with care. Some parts or amounts cause problems. Read the preparation notes first.
- Keep away. Not safe for dogs. Call your vet or a poison hotline if your dog has eaten it.
Sources
We name each source in the answer, with a link where one is available. We do not copy text from other sites.
Review dates
Each answer shows the date it was last reviewed. If a source changes, we update the answer.
Limits
Pets differ. Age, size, health conditions and medicines change what is safe. An answer here is general guidance, not advice for your animal.
