Can Dogs Eat Strawberries? Amounts, Prep and Sugar
Plain strawberries are fine in small amounts. Wash them, remove the green top and cut them up.
Safe in small amounts
Dogs
Safe amount
A few small pieces as a treat. They contain natural sugar, so keep portions small and occasional.
How to prepare it
Wash well, remove the green leaves and stem, and slice or mash them. Fresh or plain frozen only. No canned strawberries, syrup, or products with added sugar or sweeteners.
Risks
Whole berries can be a choking risk, especially for small dogs. The sugar adds up, so too many can upset the stomach or add calories. Check the label of any strawberry product for xylitol.
